Our History

Inspire Development Centers Mission: To inspire learning, growth and success in life — one child, one family and one community at a time.

Origins

In January of 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson declared The War on Poverty in his State of the Union speech. Shortly after, a panel of experts developed a comprehensive child development program that would help communities meet the needs of disadvantaged preschool children. Head Start programs were designed to help break the cycle of poverty, providing preschool children of low-income families with a comprehensive program to meet their emotional, social, health, nutritional and psychological needs.

Origins

Today

Since 1983, Inspire Development Centers has been dedicated to providing high-quality early childhood education to low-income families in agricultural and rural communities.

Founded by passionate parents, community advocates, and visionary leaders, Inspire began with just seven centers in the Yakima Valley. Today, it has grown to operate 25 Head Start centers across Washington State.

For over 42 years, Inspire has empowered families through comprehensive services that go beyond education — including medical, dental, and nutritional support. We believe that with access to education and opportunity, every family can thrive.
